Cleaner Villages, Brighter Futures: Smart Garbage Monitoring System Introduced in Naya Raipur Village Schools
Raipur, October 7 – The IEEE Kalinga University Student Branch, Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and the National Service Scheme (NSS) of Kalinga University (KU), Naya Raipur under the guidance of Dr. Vijayalaxmi Biradar, Director-IQAC, Kalinga University and IEEE Kalinga University Student Branch Mentor, took an initiative to distribute Smart Dustbins to the schools of nearby villages namely Kuhera, Tandul, Palaud, Kotni & Kotarabhata after receiving funding grant from IEEE Signal Processing Society and Ad Hoc Committee (HAC). The aim of this initiative is to upgrade society and schools with smart garbage monitoring systems.
The Smart dustbin has many features installed into it such as – The dustbin has a sensor installed into it that allows the lid to open automatically for a few seconds for usage once a person steps in front of it and then closes down. Another feature is that when the dustbin is full, a beep will sound to indicate that the dustbin needs to be cleaned. When the dustbin is full, a display system linked to it will send an SMS to the registered mobile number of the concerned authorities. This, in turn, will help/alert the authorities in cleaning the dustbin.
Kalinga University has always played an important role in raising public awareness about social issues in and around Naya Raipur. This very initiative has added another feather to Kalinga’s initiatives. The IQAC, IEEE and NSS teams visited the schools in the above-mentioned villages/communities and demonstrated the working of Smart Garbage Monitoring System from 3rd October to 7th October 2023. In the future, the team hopes to use such initiatives to raise public awareness.
