Mr. M Prasad Meher and Mrs. Sarika Meher of Samlai Handlooms have taken the initiative to support 75 poor members of the weaving community from the Sambalpur Bargarh region in western Orissa. By promoting the traditional weaving process and the art of Sambalpur, they are showcasing Odisha’s handwoven masterpieces under the brand name Samlai, which are considered a heritage of Sambalpuri Handloom.
During the exhibition, a large number of teachers and staff visited and appreciated the artworks. The exhibition featured a variety of sarees including Khandua Saree, Sonpuri Saree, Pasapalli, Dongaria Saree, Tassar Fabric, Gitagobind Pata Bastra, Simnoi, Bomkai, Pitalacotton Saree, Habaspuri, Kotpad, Dhalapahar Parada, Berhampuri Pata Joda, and more.
The process of hand weaving was demonstrated through an audio-visual medium using a projector at the exhibition venue. The faculty members appreciated the vibrant colors and intricate patterns presented during the exhibition. Many of them supported the cause by purchasing handloom sarees in large numbers.
