Kalinga University successfully organized a two-day National Workshop

The Department of Library and Information Science at Kalinga University successfully organized a two day National Workshop to provide hands-on training to library professionals on April 3 and 4, 2023, at the University Auditorium. The National Workshop was jointly organized in association with Samadhan College, Bemetara.
Samadhan College students performed the Saraswati Vandana song, which was followed by the state and welcome songs. the dignitaries Dr R Shridhar, Vice Chancellor, Dr Sandeep Gandhi, Registrar, Mrs Jasmine Joshi, Dean Students Welfare, Dr Rahul Mishra, Dean Academics Affairs, Dr Sushanta Kumar Sahoo, University Librarian of Kalinga University and Dr Alka Tiwari, Chairperson of Samadhan College, Dr Avinash Tiwari, Director, Dr Awadhesh Patel, Secretary, Dr Manikpuri Music teacher of Samadhan College Lit the traditional lamps.
The welcome address was delivered by Dr Sushanta Kumar Sahoo. Resource persons were Dr Praveen Sharma, Librarian of Government Nagarjun Post Graduate College. Dr Abhishek Kumar, Scientist of Inflibnet center, Gandhi Nagar, Gujarat. Dr DP Tripathi, Deputy Librarian of National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar, Punjab was subject expert and resource person during the workshop. Over 60 participants from all over the country took part in the workshop.
On the second day of the workshop, practical sessions were carried out in which online training on Integrated Library Management Software (ILMS) Koha was given to the participants. Dr. Sushanta Kumar Sahoo, convener of the program, informed attendees that Koha is the first open-source (OSS) web-based ILMS that includes modules for circulation, cataloguing, Acquisitions, serials, patron (member) management, Library Branch relationships, and many more features. Koha is built using International Library standards and protocols that ensure interoperability between Koha and other systems. It supports technologies and standards like MARC, Z39.50, RFID, Web 2.0, etc. The user interface is configurable and adaptable and has been translated into many languages. Koha has most of the features that would be expected in an ILMS.
Ms.Sukhpreet Kaur and Ms.Anjali Bhargava students in the MBA second semester, were the masters of the ceremony. Vice Chancellor Dr. R. Shridhar was present during the concluding ceremony. Dr.S. Sahoo proposed a vote of thanks. The Organising committee was comprised of Mr. Bramhendra Tiwari, Librarian of Samadhan College, Assistant Librarians Mr. Satish Kumar Sahu, Mr. Vijay Kumar Sahu, Mr. Pradeep Singh, Mr. Vipin Bangar, Mr. Maheswar Pal, and Mr Goutam Patel.
